Specialty of Borneo

As a rule, everyone loves to try variety type of foods when travelling, Including me.  I have been travelling around the Borneo and I noticed that there is one type of unique food that exist in every division, districts or countries of Borneo but has been called in various name. This makes me named it as the specialty of Borneo.
The citizens of land below the wind called it as Ambuyat while in the land of hornbill called it as Linut which is famous in the division of Mukah.  It makes one loses their appetite when looking at the texture of the food by first impression.
It is made from sago starch, derived from the trunk of the sago palm. The starch is soaked and cooked by scalding it with boiling water.  Everyone can try to do this simple dish. Once you taste this Ambuyat, you may want to crave for more. This is because when the starchy bland substances are dip into a sauce, of which there are many varieties brings out the taste from bland to delightful taste.  Typically, Ambuyat or Linut is eaten with sour sauce.  But some other places eat it with spicy shrimp paste or sweet sauce such as ‘Gula Melaka’. After dipping in the sour gravy, it becomes one lump of slithery goodness that I find it quite similar to eating jelly. And to eat Ambuyat, one uses stick, not hands nor other cutleries.  Some will use chopstick to twirl the starch.

The uniqueness taste of Ambuyat or Linut may capture one’s heart.  This is a must try whenever you reach to the land of Borneo.
